Flex Hoof Boots Product Guidelines
In this blog post, you’ll find essential guidelines on how to care for your horse’s hooves, body, and Flex Boots. By following these tips, you’ll help ensure your horse stays healthy and happy, and that both of you can enjoy the full benefits of Flex Boots for as long as possible.
1. Keep Hooves Balanced and Free of Cracks
Healthy hooves are the foundation of your horse’s wellbeing. We recommend trimming the hooves at least every four weeks, with weekly maintenance ideally done by the owner. This keeps the hooves balanced, smooth, and free of cracks or sharp edges, and helps your Flex Boots fit and function as intended.

Tidy up any uneven or bulky areas on the hoof wall to help ensure a comfortable and balanced fit for the boot.
2. Adjust the Neoprene Gaiter and Back Strap
Before your first ride, take the time to adjust the neoprene gaiter and back strap for your horse’s individual shape and comfort. Proper fit not only ensures the best performance but also prevents rubbing and discomfort.
Slide the elastic of the back strap trough the TPU gaiter. Take the pastern strap through the slots of the neoprene gaiter.
Adjust the back strap so the ends of the straps are facing downwards.
Watch our instructional video.

Take a moment to adjust the neoprene gaiter carefully. A well-shaped fit will help it stay in place and protect your horse’s leg comfortably.

Two fingers should fit between your horses leg and the pastern strap.

One finger should fit between your horses leg and the back strap.

If the TPU gaiter seems a bit loose at the heel bulbs, test both the higher and lower adjustment options, it’s an easy way to find the most comfortable and secure fit for your horse.

The back strap has a natural curve that’s meant to follow the shape of the hoof, just ensure the ends point downward and the size marking sits clearly in the center of the TPU gaiter for the best fit. This helps keep the boot secure and comfortable for your horse.
3. Care for Your Horse’s Whole Body
Hoof health is closely linked to overall body health. A horse that moves in balance, lifting her ribcage, engaging her hind end, and using her core muscles, is better able to carry a rider or pull a carriage comfortably and safely.

By supporting your horse’s physical condition with proper training and bodywork, you also support healthy hooves and extend the usability of your boots.
4. Store Boots Properly Between Uses
To protect your boots from premature wear, avoid storing them in closed or poorly ventilated spaces.

After each use:
-
Clean off dirt and mud
-
Allow the boots to dry thoroughly
-
Hang or place them in an open, dry area
Just like your own shoes, Flex Boots need care to stay in good condition, your horse’s comfort depends on it!
Flex Boots last longest when they are in regular use. TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) is a material that can degrade over time if left unused, this is a natural property found in all TPU-based products, including human and horse footwear.
